On September 6, in all higher educational institutions a new academic year started in the traditional offline format. Due to that, the city of Tashkent, where most of the country’s universities are located, got increasingly overloaded with students.
These days, on social networks we witness various messages holding that the number of places in student dormitories is limited, and that universities are refusing housing for students without any reason.
To examine such cases, a working group headed by the Minister of higher and secondary specialized education Abdukodir Toshkulov got acquainted with the living conditions of students in dormitories of a number of universities in the capital.
In particular, minister A.Toshkulov visited the Tashkent State Economic University. He inspected two student dormitories with a total capacity of 867 beds, examining in details the conditions created for students who arrived in the capital from the country’s regions. Currently, 867 students live in the dormitories of the university. In particular, 686 students from the regions of the country are accommodated here, including 121 on a preferential basis, of which 44 are students with disabilities, 38 are included in the “iron book” and 29 are orphans.
During the visit, the delegation inspected equipment of the dormitory (with 380 places), planned to be launched by September 20 of this year. Specific instructions were given to increase the coverage of student dormitories, in particular, through bringing in double decked beds.
